Facebook’s 25 Things

I read quite a few of these over the last few weeks and thought I would give it a shot myself. Filling this out was a lot more enjoyable than I thought it would be, which is why I wanted to share with the world. Possibly the most difficult part of this whole exercise was tagging 25 friends and only 25 as well as including those who tagged me.

  1. I’m only doing this because I’ve read about it all over the web… http://www.slate.com/id/2211068 http://www.chicagotribune.com/features/lifestyle/chi-0216-facebook-25-thingsfeb16,0,5562725.story http://www.time.com/time/arts/article/0,8599,1877187,00.html I figured I would give into the craze.
  2. I think, read, and dream about climbing more than I even realize sometimes. The hardest route I ever climbed was a gym TR 5.13c in a nasty off-width. I now average mid-5.10 routes, but am working to build and maintain 5.12 skill. I also try to spend three nights a week in the gym with my partner.
  3. I hate winter with a passion. Every year, I become slightly depressed, angry, and grumpy, but I don’t know that I want to do something about it.
  4. I can read/write 17 different languages. I can only speak 3 of them. I also have an uncanny ability to learn and write in new languages rapidly.
  5. I have some sort of attention deficit condition. I’ve been on drugs for it in the past, but took myself off of them because I couldn’t stand the druggie funk that they put me in. I will never be on drugs for anything but a bacterial or viral thing again.
  6. This ties closely in with 5 — I’m addicted to RSS feeds and subscribe to over 100 of them with google reader. I also listen to at least 5 podcasts regularly. Having something to help me focus back on work gets me through the day. My task bar at work also contains at minimum seven different applications. Along the same lines, my web browser always contains a minimum of five tabs.
  7. Until I got a full time job, I would log into Facebook once a week at most. Now I spend a good majority of the day logged in to help with number 5.
  8. I own a bike and I ride it around town as my primary transportation when the weather is nice. I don’t do it in the winter because of 3. In the winter, I do like to spend my hour lunch break at the pool. I haven’t done that this season because of an overbearing project for work that consumed all of my time and nearly ate my life whole.
  9. I only talk to one person from high school (that I can think of right now) regularly but we didn’t talk to each other for a number of years. I think this comes from the fact that I never really enjoyed high school, nor did I ever like the town I grew up in. For the most part, I’ve burned most bridges that come from that place holding on to my family and maybe just a couple friends from that time in my life. I’m working on this, and if you’re reading this, you can help me out.
  10. I play World of Warcraft and I really don’t care what that makes you think of me. On average, I play only a couple nights a week and I like the people I play with. It also is an addiction that I’ve had to Blizzard games since the Starcraft/Diablo/Warcraft I days.
  11. I get bored with most things easily (I’m already bored with this list of 25 things).
  12. I hate groms, laugh at gumbys, ignore gapers, and think dirt-baggers are sell-outs. Along those same lines, I hate incompetence and will rant endlessly to competent people about the incompetence of others.
  13. I brew beer and it’s damn good. I’m working on putting together a four tap kegerator built out of a 20+ cu.ft. freezer to store the brews that I manufacture. I love drinking, talking about and making beer so much that I’m trying to become a BJCP certified beer judge. If you want to chat sometime, or even see how beer is brewed, hit me up. Keep in mind, this is my secondary hobby.
  14. I have two expensive hobbies. I can easily spend over $1,000 on each of them in a short time and not even blink.
  15. I started smoking the hookah when I was a senior in college on weekends. I now smoke it every day out of boredom (because it’s winter). I’m working on cutting that back to just weekends over the next year.
  16. It annoys me when people screw up common phrases. The one eating me right now is “you can be rest assured.” What the HELL does that mean?!? ARGH PASSIVE VOICE!! (this rant brought to you by my high school AP English teacher, the number 13 and the letter ARRRRRRR!)
  17. I like to get to work at 7am so I can leave by 3pm and still have a majority of my day available to me. I don’t understand the people who would rather sleep in, get to work around 10, work until 6, eat, watch hours of TV, and sleep. That’s not life, that’s existence.
  18. I’ve only had a couple long-term relationships (lasting longer than two years), one in high school, one in college.
  19. I enjoy reading; however, it takes me forever to read a book since I can’t really concentrate on reading for more than a half hour at a time. I have a list of books I want to read, but I don’t know that I’ll get to all of them before my interest in them wears off.
  20. I’m interested in this list again, and I’m actually having fun with it.
  21. I’m a sucker for social network stuff and think it is possibly one of the most interesting phenomenons of our time. I’m writing this on Facebook, but will likely mirror post it to my blog, which you will see that I made a post on both my Facebook feed and my Twitter profile.
  22. My favorite non-winter activities are slacklining, climbing, bouldering, disc golfing, hiking around, swimming, and teaching people how to do these things.
  23. I spent a lot of time in high school and college involved with music. I play the trumpet, but haven’t touched it seriously in almost three years (bugling at camp from time to time). I miss spending time playing music, but think I’ve out-grown the trumpet for the time being. I’m looking at buying a guitar and either teaching myself how to play or taking lessons, or any combination of the two.
  24. I can make fire by rubbing sticks together. The best friends I have ever made can make that same claim. (This is, in fact, the same number 24 that my roommate included. I also want to add that I made a friend eat his words by making a fire in this way one evening. Interestingly I don’t talk to him anymore… funny how that works out.)
  25. I am a general badass and do things that are generally considered badass, baller, heinous, bomber, epic, and pure awesome (I’m modest too). I don’t ever plan to stop. In fact, the day I stop will be the day I die. Either that, or the day that I lost all my arms and/or legs to some freak accident.

  1. Good stuff, came here from twitter. I’m the same on number 5 and struggle with my attention unless I’m doing something very compelling. I didn’t mind the drugs. They just didn’t fix the problem, so it wasn’t worth it. Thanks for putting it out there.

  2. I’m happy you enjoyed the post. I only posted on both Facebook and here because I enjoyed putting the list together.

Hopefully now that the big push for our implementation of Cascade Server is over, I’ll be posting here more often.

Glad you made it to my little alcove of the interwebs!

  3. Here are four things I love about your 25 things
    1. That you go to work at 7 so you can leave at 3. I DO THE SAME THING! haha
    2. WOW – I don’t play but I understand the addiction. My addiction is to the sims which isn’t close gamewise but I have WOWer friends and we can relate.
    3. Hating winter – I think this is the first winter I realize how BAD of a mood winter puts me in. So yes, I understand that.
    4. Hookah =)

Now that I think of it, there are more. But those are my highlights.

I have no idea how I came across your blog, but it was on my blog list.
